Property Development
In the late 1990’s, AEI undertook the burdensome task of building homes for residents of the Dever Developmental Center in Taunton, Massachusetts so that the Department of Mental Retardation (DMR) could close this facility. This project was initiated by DMR and the Department of Capital Asset Management (DCAM). AEI, in order to reduce the cost of construction, financed the building of these homes through tax exempt municipal bonds and equity financing through the Community Economic Development and Assistance Corporation (CEDAC). That process of coordinating DMR, DCAM and bonding regulations has proved arduous at best, causing construction schedules to be longer than initially expected. Despite the complexity of delivering the homes under these circumstances, the final homes required to close the Dever facility will be delivered later this year. Each home houses four individuals, each of whom receives residential supports from staff of Southeast Residential Services (SRS).
The homes have been constructed by two sub-corporations of Attleboro Enterprises:
- Attleboro Enterprises Properties, Incorporated (AEP) which has completed four homes in Braintree, Centerville, Kingston and Marshfield.
- Attleboro Enterprises Development Corporation which is completing three homes in Abington, Hanover, and Scituate.
