Redemption Centers
Two Redemption Centers function as transitional work sites in which individuals are assessed in an array of job functions while maintaining the Centers as viable businesses. The Centers generate income by refunding returnable bottles and cans brought in by the general public and having workers recycle the bottles and cans which are then shipped back to distributors and/or their handling agencies. The Centers also arrange pick up of bottles and cans for fundraising events operated by organizations such as the Boy Scouts and church groups. Both Centers are licensed by the Department of Environmental Protection and operate under regulations established by the Massachusetts Bottle Bill. The two centers are located at:

Individuals employed by the Centers are assessed on their skills in wiriting, simple math, sorting, work ethics, and use of packaging tools such as hand trucks, pump jacks, and tape guns. Staff also offer instruction in job seeking skills (resume writing, interviewing for a job) to enhance one’s ability to obtain a job with local employers. These Centers not only offer a valuable service to their local communities, but have served as an excellent transitional job experience from which individuals have gone on to develop careers in other areas.
