Transitions Services
AEI in collaboration with several area School Systems participates in the transition planning process for students in Special Education programs. All special education students with an Individualized Education Program must have a transition plan that identifies their post-school employment, social, and recreational goals.
Through collaboration, participating school students are accessing the same supports AEI offers to its adult program participants. These supports concentrate on soft skills development that prepares the students for the world of work and/or entry into a human service agency program. Additionally, AEI shares its assessment of each student's current level of functioning, identifying barriers to employment that can then be addressed through the school curriculum. This interaction with AEI staff has helped to educate students and their families about the transition process and reduce the natural anxiety associated with leaving school.
The collaboration with local Schools also includes AEI’s Summer Youth Program which offers both situational assessments on an individualized basis and participation on volunteer projects with local, not for profit organizations and municipal governments in group settings.
